Common Government Contracting Questions

Questions, answered

The things business owners most often ask before getting started with government contracting.

What exactly is "DIY with help"?
It means you complete the work yourself — the registrations, the bid searches, the proposal — while we provide expert guidance, document review, and step-by-step direction along the way. We help you understand what needs to be done, what documents are required, and what mistakes to avoid, so you move forward with confidence.
How do I know if my business is ready to bid?
We help you understand where your business currently stands and what's needed to become a more qualified, responsive, and responsible bidder. That can include reviewing your business structure, registrations, insurance, licensing, NAICS/NIGP codes, capability statement, and past performance. If you'd like a formal review, the Readiness Assessment gives you a score and a roadmap.
What documents do I need for government contracting?
Commonly: business registration, W-9, insurance certificates, licenses, a capability statement, references, tax documents, banking information, certifications, safety documents, and bonding information. In a session we review your checklist and help you spot what's missing, incomplete, outdated, or disorganized before you begin bidding.
How do I find bid opportunities — and know if they're worth pursuing?
We help you understand where to look and how to evaluate fit — reviewing the scope of work, due dates, mandatory meeting requirements, insurance and bonding requirements, licensing, and submission instructions. Before you invest time in a proposal, a bid/no-bid strategy session helps you decide whether an opportunity makes sense for your capacity, experience, and cash flow.
Can you help me understand a solicitation or RFP?
Yes. We help you read and understand solicitation documents — key dates, required forms, scope of work, pricing instructions, evaluation criteria, compliance requirements, and submission procedures — so nothing catches you off guard.
Will you review my proposal before I submit it?
Yes. You prepare the proposal, and we review it for completeness, organization, responsiveness, and alignment with the solicitation. We help identify missing sections, unclear language, weak areas, and compliance risks before submission. (Full done-for-you proposal writing is a separate service.)
Can you help with the financial side of contracts?
We help you think through upfront costs, materials, payroll, supplies, payment delays, invoice timing, supplier terms, and possible funding gaps — so you avoid bidding on contracts you can't afford to perform. Note this is guidance to prepare for funding conversations; it does not include lending, guaranteed funding, or credit repair.
What is NOT included in DIY support?
DIY support does not include done-for-you proposal writing, guaranteed contract awards, legal advice, tax advice, credit repair, guaranteed funding, lending services, or submitting bids on your behalf — unless a separate written agreement is in place.

A note on scope

Our DIY support is guidance, review, and direction while you do the work. It is not legal, tax, or financial advice, and does not guarantee contract awards or funding. When you want something done entirely for you, our Setup Service and upcoming Proposal Writing service are there for the next step.
